Coach of the Belgium team, Roberto Martinez, informed on Sunday that Belgium will be playing four friendly matches in order to prepare for Euro 2020 championship. Of those four matches, two will be played in March and two will be played on the evening of the tournament. He did not mention the names of the opponents but said that the matches in March will be played against two European opponents.
Belgium is one of the tournament favorites after finishing third at the last World Cup in Russia as well as securing top rankings in FIFA.
The plans are yet to be formalized but the matches will most likely take place in Qatar. About the teams, the coach says that opponents have a certain style of play, therefore, the matches in March are important as there will be an opportunity for assessment of the overall game and how players can improve.
Coach reports that some players have more than 3000 minutes of playing this season but some players do need individual training. He hopes for sunny conditions so that the Red Devils can get a little vitamin D.
“In June, we will be playing two more games, including one in Brussels to give our supporters the opportunity to send us off in a good way.
“We will not be playing in Belgium during the Euros, so we want to experience this unique chemistry once again before going to the tournament. So, we’re going to make this match, at King Baudouin Stadium, special,” he added.
In group B, Belgium will be facing Russia, Finland and Denmark. There are two matches in St Petersburg which are sandwiched between the game that will be against Danes in Copenhagen.
